Challenge
A knowledge-intensive agency wanted to understand what its ambitions for the coming years would mean for its people, organisation and HR. A new organisational strategy was the starting point. How do you build a workforce that keeps learning and can adapt to change? Which human capital challenges should take priority? And what role does HR need to play?
Bright & Company helped the agency develop a forward-looking HR vision and strategy, directly linked to the organisation’s ambitions and challenges. Not a standalone HR plan, but a clear direction that guides strategic choices, translates them into a practical multi-year plan and makes progress measurable.
Approach
We brought together a core team of specialists from different HR disciplines and Bright & Company consultants. We started by looking at relevant developments in the world of work, the labour market and human capital from an outside-in perspective, before connecting these to the new organisational strategy and the agency’s specific context.
We then gathered insights from across the organisation, exploring the developments and strategic challenges people were seeing and what these meant for the organisation and its employees. Bringing these different perspectives together helped us build a shared understanding of the key people and organisational issues, as well as the challenges facing HR.
With this foundation in place, we developed the HR vision and strategy together. We tested and refined it in a wider group session before presenting it to the executive team. The organisation’s own strategic choices shaped the final priorities. This created a clear focus on the areas where HR can truly make a difference in the years ahead.
Impact
The project resulted in an HR vision and strategy with broad support across the organisation, directly aligned with the agency’s strategic direction. The key people and organisational challenges became clear, priorities were set and translated into a practical multi-year action plan, with clear agreements on implementation and how progress would be tracked.
The process also strengthened shared ownership among HR and the stakeholders involved. By taking a collaborative approach centred on learning, we did more than develop a strategy. We also helped HR strengthen its ability to work strategically.
